What is Lifestyle Medicine

Lifestyle medicine is evidence- based and looks at daily habits inlcuding nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, relationships and reducing harmful substances.

It is not an alternative to conventional medicine. It works alongside it, using evidence-informed lifestyle approaches to support prevention, symptom improvement and long-term wellbeing.

At Flourish Health Clinic, lifestyle medicine is personalised and practical. Together, we explore what may be affecting your health and create realistic steps that fit your life.

I qualified as a medical doctor in Germany. Following hospital training in intensive care and cardiology in Berlin I came to the UK in 2010 and subsequently trained and qualified as a GP in the Mid-Sussex training scheme.

While working as a NHS GP I became increasingly interested in the role of lifestyle medicine in improving longterm health and, studying with the British Association of Lifestyle Medicine passed the internationally recognised Diploma in Lifestyle Medicine in 2022.

As a doctor and mother , I understand the challenges of balancing health, family life, work and everyday demands.

My approach combines conventional medical training with practical, evidence-informed lifestyle support — looking beyond symptoms alone to understand health in the context of daily life, stress, sleep, nutrition, movement and long-term wellbeing.

I believe health care works best when people feel heard, empowered and supported.

My approach

Many of the people I work with are living with a constant level of stress or pressure. Over time, this can affect the nervous system, often showing up as fatigue, poor sleep, digestive symptoms, anxiety, or a sense of being constantly "switched on". Supporting the body through lifestyle changes is often a powerful first step towards restoring balance.

At your first appointment, you are welcome to bring any previous test results or letters. We take the time to understand your health in context and, together, develop a plan that is clear, practical, and tailored to you.

I am mindful that time, energy, and financial resources are often limited. Many of us are juggling work, family, caring responsibilities, and the demands of everyday life. Rather than adding complexity, I focus on simple, effective changes that fit realistically into your routine.

My aim is to empower you, not to create dependency. I believe some of the most effective health interventions cost little or nothing at all. Good sleep, movement, time in nature, nourishing food, social connection, and stress management are often overlooked because they seem simple, yet they are among the most powerful tools we have.

Where additional support may be helpful, I will always aim to find an approach that balances the evidence with your personal circumstances, preferences, time, and budget.

If lifestyle changes alone are not enough, I may suggest to discuss further assessment with your GP or specialist suggest support from other practitioners where appropriate. I very much value a collaborative approach.
